The below chart shown the top ten bottled wine (packing < 2 liters) importing provinces & municipalities where their aggregate volume and value occupied 96.4% and 96.9% respectively to the total imported wine market share in China in the first half of 2017.
The Top 10 Bottled Wine Import Provinces / Municipalities – 1H 2017
The ranking (based on value) was almost the same as in 2016 except Zhejiang Province overtook Beijing’s position as number 3. Beijing was the only market dropped in both volume and value, while Beijing and Tianjin are always treated as an integrated business entity especially to goods import by sea freight (Tianjin - Beijing’s neighbor municipality which has a harbor while Beijing is a landlocked city). In Guangdong though the volume increased 11.3% comparing to the same period in 2016, while the value decreased by 17% which reflected from its per-liter price in 2016’s @US$8.95 to 2017’s @US$6.67 (average unit price dropped 25% to 2016’s).
The 6-Month Imported Wine Data (2017 vs 2016)
Divided by market in regions from north to south, their respective market shares are:
The Change of 1H of 2017 vs 2016 in Regions
From the above analysis, the two largest imported wine market were the collective economic territories in eastern China inclusive of Shanghai, Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province which occupied a share of 41.7% and 37.7% in volume and value respectively, and Guangdong Province alone had 25.9% and 38.2% respectively.
So to international wine marketers and winery owners, the two most dynamic imported bottled wine market should be Eastern China and Guangdong Province, while Guangdong has the largest number of importers and distributors which would be easier and more efficient to wineries to work on to promote their wine products.
ChinaWineBusiness.com will lead some international wine association, wineries and wine exporters to take part into a large wine fair held in Guangzhou (InterWine Asia) this November (12th to 14th) and a roadshow wine-tasting events in 7 major cities in Guangdong Province in December from 5th to 19th. We design a competitive promotion campaign package which includes to exhibit in InterWine and promoting in 4 cities so to help international wine businesses to access and contact directly to importers/distributors. Interested parties could contact me at ChinaWineBusiness@gmail.com for details as vacancies are limited to sell off.
