Top Bottled-Wine Exporting Countries to China – Jan to May 2016
French, Australian, Chilean, Spanish and Italian wines occupied over 91.5% and 89.2% by value and by volume respectively of the total imported bottled-wine market in China from January to May, 2016.
All the top 5 wine exporting countries made a large gain in both volume and value in this period. Portuguese and Georgian wines were also the winners among the smaller wine procuring countries. While only French and Italian wines which Chinese customers were willing to pay more for their wines, their average prices increased 39% and 26% respectively.
The high average price of Australian wine was largely contributed by the popularity in recent years of those Australian premium wines (e.g. Penfolds) and heavy promotion as a substitute to the French Grand Cru.
