To any international wineries and wine merchants who plan to enter the China wine market, Guangdong Province is the place where they should be very attentive. Guangdong is composed by 21 cities with a population of 108.49 million by the end of 2015, China’s only province with a population exceeded 100 million.
Within Guangdong Province, the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone (PRD) is the most important market to start with. PRD consists of 9 cities, Guangzhou (the capital city of Guangdong), Shenzhen, Foshan, Dongguan, Huizhou, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Zhuhai and Zhaoqing (locations see the map).
PRD leads performance in all figures and indices not only in the Province, but also on a national level.
PRD has 54% of the Province’s population (58.7 million), or 4.2% of China’s total population, if to count standalone, could rank the 10th (almost the same population as Hubei Province) among the 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.
PRD accounted for 79% of the Province’s GDP
PRD accounted for 72.5% of the Province’s retail sales or 7.6% of the country’s total retail sales of consumer goods (2014 data)
